Classes Start
Generally, engineering classes begin twice a year:

Associate of Engineering Classes
The Associate of Engineering program at DBU is designed for students to complete 70 to 78 hours of coursework, setting the foundation for further study. After finishing this program, students are equipped to seek admission at a receiving institution to pursue the remaining portion of their four-year ABET-approved engineering degree.
While completing the first two years of engineering school at DBU, the students will benefit from being located in the Dallas Metroplex area, being influenced by the faculty and staff at DBU, and being able to network with the people, facilities, and opportunities associated with the industries in the Metroplex.
The Associate of Engineering program will provide the students with four tracks of study, i.e., mechanical, electrical, biomedical, and computer science. The following tracks and the coursework associated with each track can be viewed by following the link provided.
Travel Opportunities
In addition to mission trips, DBU periodically offers students travel opportunities to earn course credit.
Partnerships
Baylor University is a receiving school for DBU AE graduates. DBU and BU have entered into an Articulation Agreement where DBU AE graduates can apply to Baylor and finish their Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Associate of Engineering Program Director
Dr. Owen Schipplein
Dr. Schipplein received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, a Masters in Bioengineering and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois in Chicago, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, IN. He has a P.E. credential from the State of Wisconsin and an RN from the State of Indiana. Prior to DBU, Dr. Schipplein was an Assistant Professor/Scientist in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery/Research at Rush University in Chicago, a Vice-President of Engineering Systems, Inc. in Aurora, Illinois, founded Schipplein and Associates, Inc., cofounded Maestoso Press, Inc., and JOT and Tittle Publications, Inc. Dr. Schipplein’s areas of specialization include but are not limited to mechanical analysis, biomechanics, kinesiology, and accident investigation.

Internships
Through the DBU Associate of Engineering program, students have the opportunity to meet with an advisor individually to help think through internship options and decide the best course of action. DBU works to create experiences and pipelines to equip students with the connections they need to be successful. Students also have the opportunity to learn through sponsored visits to schools. Touring with other students and professors can give a new perspective as well as provide ways to get to know other students in your field of interest.
DBU provides students with a Christ-centered learning environment that allows them the opportunity to grow spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and socially while they pursue their academic and professional calling. While unapologetically a Christ-centered University, DBU welcomes all students who desire to become engineers to come and learn in an environment that will prepare them for their life’s goals. The students at DBU can get to know their professors and be mentored by professionals in their field. The preparation for engineering school at DBU will provide an environment for the students to understand and adopt the life of service to society and learn to lead in the fields of their calling. This servant leadership model of academic and professional preparation will equip the students with problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and social interaction skills.
Dallas Baptist University is located in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, where engineering is practiced daily in the areas of mechanical, electrical, biomedical, computer, civil, chemical, and materials engineering. Industry, medical complexes, manufacturing facilities, retail, research, consulting, and education institutes are prevalent in the metroplex. The location of these facilities makes it practical to develop partnerships, internships, and experiential learning.
The Associate of Engineering degree was developed to further the scope of influence of the mission of DBU and to establish Christ-centered servant leaders in the area of engineering.
Students in the Associate of Engineering program at DBU will conduct some of their lab work off-campus and in manufacturing and industrial settings and will receive instruction from and work with professionals in the manufacturing industry. Communication is important in the engineering profession and while serving others. DBU students are taught the importance of teamwork and to have excellent speaking, listening, visual, and interpersonal skills. This skill set will enhance their ability to serve others, work as a member of a team, and understand and implement the needs of their employer. The education and training received at DBU will provide students with real-life engineering experiences. Whether in industry manufacturing a part or participating in an open-ended design, build, and test lab, students will gain the critical thinking skills needed to succeed in engineering school.

Students will become familiar with professional engineering societies and will learn about engineering activities in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. Students of similar interest, small classes, accessibility to your professors, and student life will give you many opportunities to meet other students and share ideas and experiences.
Preparing You for Engineering School Admissions and Beyond
DBU is actively engaged in building relationships with engineering schools to receive DBU graduates. The Associate of Engineering advisor will be available to help guide the student in their decisions as to where to finish their Bachelor of Science in Engineering. The Associate of Engineering advisor will also be available to guide the student into career paths of the student's choosing and help them make decisions concerning professional opportunities.
