Dr. Josephine E. Quillian's Background

Beth Quillian is the director of the keyboard division in the Department of Music and has served on the music faculty since 1995. In addition to the critically acclaimed Abby Simon, her teachers have included Peggy Abraham, Jane Abbot-Kirk, Betty Ruth Tomfohrde, Nancy Weems, and Robert Smith. Post-doctoral studies with Sheila Paige and serving as an administrator for Paige's Piano Wellness Seminar in 2005 heightened Quillian's awareness and commitment to healthy approaches to the keyboard.

A deep interest in the development of pedagogy and accompanying skills has led Dr. Quillian to restructuring the piano program at DBU in order to emphasize these areas to undergraduate piano students. This coincides with her love of artistic collaboration with singers and various combinations of instruments. Dr. Quillian is an active solo performer and is also in demand as an adjudicator of piano festivals, competitions, and solo literature contests.

She holds a B.M. in Piano Performance from Baylor University, a M.M. in Piano Performance from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, and a D.M.A. in Piano from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she was awarded the James C. McKinney Outstanding Performer Award.
