Dr. Jon Choi's Background
Jon Choi serves as Associate Professor of Theological Studies and directs two master’s programs, M.A. in Christian Ministry and M.A. in Worship Studies. He received a B.S. in Industrial Technology from San Jose State University, a Practical Theology diploma from Christ For The Nations Institute, and a Master of Divinity and a Ph.D. in Old Testament from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His childhood dreams included being a CIA agent, inventor, musician, and pastor. Although God never led him to join the CIA, Jon served in pastoral ministries for 26 years (youth minister, college pastor, singles pastor, and lead pastor) prior to joining DBU as a full-time faculty in 2017. Praising God through music is one of his passions, and he has toured extensively as a guitarist with praise bands such as Living Praise (from Christ For The Nations Institute), Proclaim, and with Eight Hour Shift (EHS), an alternative Christian rock band. He has also served as the bandmaster and worship director for JAMA New Awakening Conferences (Jesus Awakening Movement for All Nations). Passionate about teaching and preaching, Jon has taught and spoken at conferences, retreats, revival meetings, and Bible schools in more than 40 countries around the globe.
