Dr. Judith Carrier Serves as Keynote Speaker for BLAST Luncheon at DBU
Leadership Lessons from Dr. Judith Carrier
Dr. Judith Carrier, Founding President of Tarrant County College Southeast Campus in Arlington, was the guest speaker for Dallas Baptist University's biannual Business Luncheon and Seminar Training (BLAST) held on Tuesday, March 27. Although retired from TCC, Dr. Carrier currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Fort Worth Corporation and is on the Board of Directors for numerous organizations, including the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Team Arlington, and the Fort Worth Public Library Foundation.
During her message to DBU students, faculty, and staff in attendance, Dr. Carrier spoke about learning life's leadership lessons. She gave a personal testimony of how she learned about leadership from her parents, her teachers, and her church growing up. Once in college, she was able to put those snapshots of leadership into practice through her participation in the Baptist Student Union, summer missions, and various organizations.
While an undergraduate at the University of Houston, Dr. Carrier learned important lessons from the Lord about leading and helping people. She stated, "I thought missions were someplace else but realized it is where there is need. Where people are, that's where our mission is."
Courage and Confidence in Leadership
Even though fear can come with stepping into a leadership position, Christians can find confidence knowing who they are, and who they are. With belief in Christ, Dr. Carrier expressed that leadership is having the courage to go into the world and make a difference, regardless of whether recognition comes. Likewise, she stated that leaders with courage can admit when they do not know exactly where they are going, and know the steps to find direction, always thinking and figuring out what to do based on training and experience.
The luncheon, sponsored by the DBU College of Business and the Graduate School of Business, is held in both the fall and spring semesters on the DBU campus for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
