Music Business Student Takes First in International Great Composers Competition
Senior, Joey Goodale was named one of the two first prize winners in the International Great Composers Edvard Grieg Competition. Goodale’s performance of Ich Liebe Dich was selected among submissions from musicians around the world.
Joey reflects on his experience:
"I feel called to sing with my life. I truly can’t stress that enough. Winning first prize in a competition like this was a huge validation and affirmation of that calling. This competition was also significant because it gives me a bit more credibility as I pursue graduate studies in voice. I’m so thankful to be awarded first place and am excited for the future the Lord is continually revealing to me."
What other major roles or performances have you participated in while at DBU?
"I played Marco in Gianni Schicchi last fall. Additionally, the DBU Department of Music will be doing a production of The Fantasticks in late September, in which I will be playing the lead role of El Gallo. I’m really looking forward to that!”
What are your hopes for your future career?
“My dream is to sing opera professionally. I’m very excited about going down the road of becoming a full-time professional singer. I feel that music, and specifically opera, gives us opportunities to see and feel the realities of what it means to be human, and going deeper, how we fit into the big picture of the work of the Gospel."
