Master of Arts in Global Leadership Program Welcomes Dr. Mark Alexander
There are exciting new changes happening here in the Master of Arts in Global Leadership Program. Meet Dr. Mark Alexander, the new MAGL Program Director. He is no stranger to the MAGL Family as he has taught many courses in the MAGL and in Intercultural Studies. Dr. Alexander is married to Dr. Karen Alexander, a professor at DBU. She teaches English and Spanish courses in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. They have three adult children and have been married for forty years.
As the son of missionary parents, Dr. Alexander grew up in the cities of Paraná, Mar del Plata, and Buenos Aires in Argentina. Over time he developed a fondness for the country of Argentina, as it was there that he served with the International Mission Board (SBC) for over thirty years. Given the fact that his parents are missionaries, Dr. Alexander became a Christian at an early age. However, it was not until he was fourteen years old that he fully understood his need to give his life to Christ and allow Him to be his Savior and Lord.
Dr. Alexander graduated from Lincoln High School in Buenos Aires, Argentina, completed his undergraduate degree at Baylor University, majoring in both Foreign Service and Spanish. However, he did not stop there; Dr. Alexander went on to complete his Master of Divinity and Doctorate from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. If Dr. Alexander could use one word to describe God in his life, he would choose "faithful." He shared, "At each stage of my life and in each and every circumstance, God has shown up and proved Himself to be sovereign."
With a heart for ministry and missions, Dr. Alexander mentions one of the most important lessons taught during his time in school. He recalls a phrase spoken by one of his seminary professors, stating, "The most important word in the English language is the word, relationships." Dr. Alexander shares how this mindset not only applies to our relationship with Christ, but secondly to our relationships with others. Both are extremely important and necessary. One word of advice Dr. Alexander would like to pass on to his MAGL students is to, "guard your time with the Lord. Continuing to grow in your relationship with God is indispensable for long-term ministry."
Dr. Alexander is overjoyed to step into the position of Program Director for the MAGL. He shares how wonderful it is to be involved with a program that has graduates serving God all around the world and experiencing diverse cultures, but also united in a commitment to be a part of what God is doing.
