Assistant Professor of Business Bob Reader Joins the DBU Family
"I never dreamed that someday, when I finally got to join a faculty full-time, that willingness to share my faith would be a condition of applying for the position and, more importantly, a part of the culture and expectation in every class. I praise our Lord and Savior for so graciously allowing me to join this wonderful DBU family." Professor Bob Reader was hired as an Assistant Professor in the College of Business this semester, and he teaches Business Law, New Venture Creation, and Business Ethics.
Professor Reader has a deep passion for integrating faith into the world of business. From 2013-2022, he built Kingdom Businesses, which partnered with the underground church in unreached nations by launching companies to plant churches and spread the Good News. For example, Professor Reader launched Laos AgriVentures in partnership with local believers in Laos. They aim to produce 100,000 pigs per year to feed their country, which suffers from a high malnutrition rate. They are also active in sharing the love of God wherever they do business. They strategically did this to justify buying corn from rural villages to create relationships with the farmers so that the AgriVentures staff could share the Gospel with them while also blessing them with their business.
Professor Reader studied Chemistry and Business during his undergraduate at Wichita State University and then studied Law and Business as a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After his education, Bob and his wife Mary lived in Manhattan, Kansas, for 20 years, where they homeschooled their eight children. They faithfully attended Grace Baptist Church in Kansas and served their community there. The Readers were called to DFW when an opportunity to pursue an Intellectual Property LL.M. at Texas A&M Law School in Fort Worth arose. During his time at A&M, a law school in India invited him to serve as a professor. The Readers felt called to move to India with their four youngest children but returned to DFW after a few weeks due to a family medical need. It has been less than a year since they returned to Texas, so the many life transitions are still difficult to process for their family. "On my very first night of class, there were three precious souls who had just arrived from India over Winter Break, brand new to America, and honestly, it felt a little like teaching in India again. For me, DBU is quickly feeling like home."
Professor Reader currently lives in Benbrook, TX, with his wife, Mary, and his four youngest children. The Readers recently began attending Birchman Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where they look forward to seeing how God works through this new church family.
