DBU Broadcast Alumnus Brandon Matula Takes On Super Bowl LVIII

"When my production manager sent me the email telling me I was going to the Super Bowl, I couldn't believe it, and I still can't believe it!" said alumnus Brandon Matula, who graduated from DBU in 2022 with a Bachelor's in Broadcast and Digital Media.

Brandon discovered DBU in the summer of 2017 while searching for his post-high school education. From the moment he stepped on campus, he noticed the professors' intentional care for their students here. He knew DBU was the right place for him because of the Christ-centered education and the personal investments he would receive from the faculty, staff, and student body. During Brandon's four years on University Hill, he grew academically, spiritually, and socially through the community he found on campus in Ford Village and because of his professors pouring into him.

As Brandon pursued the broadcast program at DBU, Professor Chris Fore left a lasting impact on him. "Professor Fore always pushed me to be better and never to be satisfied. He helped me polish my editing skills, my knowledge of a production set, and much more." Brandon also had the opportunity to earn hands-on experience with the Patriot Broadcasting Network at DBU, where he learned how to work effectively as a team to create a successful production.

Dr. Wes Hartley left a spiritual impact on Brandon during his Church Media Leadership class. "Shift the credit and take the blame" is a lesson from Dr. Hartley that has stuck with Brandon throughout the years. Throughout his career, he has noticed the production industry is home to lots of pride, and this advice from Dr. Hartley helps him give all the glory to the Lord.

Currently, Brandon works for Kroenke Sports and Entertainment on their SkyCam team, which is the camera that is suspended above the sports fields on what looks like a zipline. SkyCam works with the NFL, NCAA football and basketball, and the NBA, and they work directly with networks such as CBS, ESPN/ABC, FOX, and NBC. Brandon works as a Technician and specializes in maintaining the systems and supporting the crews to ensure everything works correctly. Recently, he had the opportunity to work with engineers to develop Augmented Reality integration into their systems. This AR technology was used during the Super Bowl to create immersive graphics and viewing experiences for viewers at home.

During Super Bowl LVIII, Brandon ensured a smooth flight for their pilots and chief engineers. He was on-site in Las Vegas, preparing the systems for the big game. "It was such an honor to be of service to our best in the world engineers, pilots, and more to make history for our company as our biggest production yet. I thank God for this opportunity. I would not have been blessed with this experience without God paving the road in front of me every step of the way."
