Exercising Servant Leadership in Corporate America: DBU Alumnus Matthew London

One of Dallas Baptist University's missions is to develop Christ-centered servant leaders who will shed the light of Christ on everyone they encounter after their time on University Hill. For DBU alumnus ('07) Matthew London, leadership piqued his interest early in his life.

Matthew London was born and raised in Southern California, and at a young age, he was adopted by a wonderful family that he credits to his successful future. His adoptive parents were Messianic Jewish, so they blessed Matthew by providing a unique and fulfilling perspective on faith and spirituality. Matthew was raised in the church and learned about Jesus at a young age, but he did not enter into a personal relationship with Christ until he was 18. "This decision has profoundly shaped my life and remains one of the most important choices I have ever made in my life."

Inspired by his father's career in technology, Matthew felt called to pursue a university where he could fulfill his passions for leadership and technology. "Merging these two passions has felt like a natural and divinely guided path." Matthew first discovered Dallas Baptist University through some of his church friends who attended. Persuaded by their positive DBU experience, Matthew traveled to University Hill for a campus tour. After stepping on the DBU campus, Matthew felt the Lord calling him to enroll.  

Matthew attended DBU to pursue a B.S. in Communications. Professor Philip Jenkins served as Matthew's advisor, and he had a significant impact on Matthew. Professor Jenkins continually provided honest and constructive feedback that taught Matthew leadership lessons he continues to use in his career today. "DBU instilled in me the importance of seeking divine guidance, pursuing wisdom, and embracing lifelong learning. These principles, deeply embedded during my time at DBU, continue to guide my personal and professional life today."

Matthew intended to work in the medical industry upon graduation; however, God had other plans for him. After graduation, Matthew began his career in corporate America and discovered his passion for leadership. Matthew sought additional education in leadership and earned his M.B.A. in Organizational Leadership from Texas A&M University-Commerce and his M.A. in Conflict Management from Southern Methodist University. God also led Matthew to be an adjunct professor at DBU from 2019-2021, where he taught Technology Consulting, Cloud Computing, IT Strategy, and Agile Project Management for the Graduate School of Business. Matthew was blessed by the opportunity to pour into students at the university, where he discovered God's calling for his life.

After working in leadership roles at well-known companies such as EY and TXU Energy and founding his own commercial real estate investment company, Matthew was led to join SAP in 2015. His career with SAP spans over nine years, and throughout his tenure, he has excelled in customer project delivery, strategy development, and managing relationships within the SAP ecosystem, significantly boosting sales and engagement outcomes throughout his various positions in the company. This spring, Matthew stepped into a new role as the Vice President of the Renewable Energies and Utilities team for Central North America. "I enjoy continuous learning, meeting new people, and tackling the unique challenges each day brings."
