DBU Lingo
Here on University Hill, we often say things that only make sense to the DBU Family, so we wanted to give you a dictionary of a few common phrases that you'll need as a DBU student!
Places on Campus
Officially known as the Collins Learning Center, most students just refer to the library as "the LC." The library, computer lab, Writing Center, and most of your classes are located here, as well as a DBU Coffeehouse location and the Daily Bread Bistro. You can find the LC on top of the hill behind the Quad.
At the center of the academic buildings on the top of the hill, the Quad is home to events all throughout the school year. Things like the Welcome Back Party, the Chili Cook-Off, and Christmas Tree Lighting all take place on the Quad. It is also a great spot to study when the weather is nice!
The Burg is what we call our gym. Home to our Patriot Basketball and Volleyball teams, the Burg is also the place where events like Spring Sing take place.
Commonly referred to as just "Piper," this room in the Sadler Global Missions Center is a multi-purpose room, often utilized for conferences, meetings, and other events.
Housed below one row of Brownstones is home to the DBU Coffeehouse and the Union Grille and is an awesome place to study, hang out, or watch sporting events. The annual Super Bowl Watch Party as well as other events are held here.
Housed in the lower level of the Dr. William B. Dean Learning Center, the Sellar is a great place to hang out or study. Right next to the Student Life Office, the Seller has a pool table, foosball, and ping pong, as well as TVs that are great for watching sporting events. Right outside the Sellar doors, you’ll find the Sellar Yard and the amphitheater, the location for Sellar Nights – an event that takes place every couple of months that you won’t want to miss!
Both are great locations for outdoor activities.
The Old Intramural Field is located behind the Sedwick Soccer Field.
The New Intramural Field is near the Brownstones and the Union.
If you hear that an event is at “the Intramural Field,” be sure to ask which one!
DBU Events

One of the favorite events of the year, Spring Sing is a pretty incredible display of musical and theatrical talent! Greek organizations put on a show complete with singing, dancing, acting, and so much more.
