Financial Aid Checklist
New and returning students planning to attend DBU can proactively prepare for the upcoming school year by completing the necessary steps to secure funding for their education.
Use this checklist to guide you through the financial aid process—from applying for aid to reviewing your awards, completing loan requirements, and more—make sure you don’t miss any opportunities for financial aid.
- Apply for financial aid by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a Texas Application for State Financial Aid

- Apply for private scholarships
- Apply for outside scholarships from local resources like parents' places of employment, local banks, a chamber of commerce, community foundations, etc. Students can also search and apply for many scholarships on websites such as Scholarships.com, Fastweb.com, and CollegeScholarships.org
- Use our online tools to better understand and manage your expenses
- Monitor your MyDBU account regularly and understand how to use DBU Self-Service
- Review your Communications and Tasks for missing information
- Review and accept your financial aid awards
- Review information like your Student Aid Index (SAI) and Satisfactory Academic Progress status
- Ensure your budget is accurately reflected; check your housing status and let us know if your housing/living situation will be different from what is reflected in your budget
- Delegate access and review the privacy information provided
- If you have other resources or outside scholarships, report them to the office of financial aid
- Review the work-study information, accept your work-study award, and begin your successful job search
- If you are borrowing Federal Student Loans, complete your loan requirements to be eligible for disbursement

- Understand your cost of attendance, payment options, and refunds by visiting the cashier’s office and your student account regularly
