1098-T Tax Forms

The 1098-T form is used by the University to report qualified educational expenses to students from the prior tax year. The 1098-T form is mailed to your home address at the beginning of each year for help in preparing your tax return.

How to Access Your 1098-T Form Online:

  • Go to the Heartland (ECSI) website.
  • Log in or Register your account
  • Connect your account with your Heartland key
  • View Account Overview or History to download a copy of your tax form

Helpful Information

  • What do the different boxes mean?

    Box 1. Shows the total payments received by an eligible educational institution from any source for qualified tuition and related expenses less any reimbursements or refunds made that relate to payments received.

    Box 4. Shows any adjustment made to a prior year for qualified tuition and related expenses that were reported on a prior year Form 1098-T.

    Box 5. Shows the total of all scholarships or grants administered and processed by DBU.

    Box 6. Shows adjustments to scholarships or grants for a prior year.

    Box 7. Shows whether the amount in box 1 includes amounts for an academic period beginning January–March. See Pub. 970 for how to report these amounts.

    Box 8. Shows whether you are considered to be carrying at least one-half the normal full-time workload for your course of study at the reporting institution.

    Box 9. Shows whether you are considered to be enrolled in a program leading to a graduate degree, graduate-level certificate, or other recognized graduate-level educational credential.

Qualified Tuition and Related Expenses

Included

  • Graduate and Undergraduate Program Tuition
  • Required fees: student activity fee, technology fee, student services fees and fees required as a part of enrollment
  • Withdrawal's not waived or reduced and required to be paid or were billed to student

Not Included

  • Late Charges
  • Application Fees
  • Medical Expenses (including student health fees)
  • Room and board charges
  • Graduation Fees, Drop Fees, and Registration Fees
  • Textbooks
  • Similar personal, living, or family expenses
  • Transportation
  • 1098-T forms will be mailed out by the beginning of February each year.
